Smoky Black Cardamom Chicken Curry

1 lb chicken, cut into pieces
2 tablespoons oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
2 teaspoons garlic paste
1 teaspoon ginger paste
2 black cardamom pods
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
Salt to taste
Fresh cilantro for garnish

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
Add garlic paste and ginger paste, and sauté for another minute.
Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.
Add black cardamom pods, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
Add chicken pieces and cook until lightly browned.
Add water as needed, cover, and simmer until the chicken is cooked through.
